Launching the Interspace's Remote Access Client

The Interspace's remote access client is written in VisualWorks Smalltalk, which supports remote access via Applied Reasoning's ClassicBlend software. ClassicBlend replicates native VisualWorks applications as remote Java-based applet windows, thus to use this application you will need a late model Java-enabled web browser such as either Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or Netscape Communicator 4.7. Sorry, but beyond these reccomendations we do not have an exhaustive list of which of the many web browser / operating system combinations can be expected to work- in our experience this changes from version to version of both the OS and the web browsers.

Like any Java-based applet, ClassicBlend's remote display client may need to obtain your permission in order to run the client on your machine. Obviously you will need to grant this permission in order for the client to work.

It is normal for there to be a short delay while the client applet downloads and initializes. This client is approximately one megabyte in size, so if you are on a slow connection this can take some time. If the client successfully downloads and initializes properly you will see a button appear in the upper left corner of this page with a graphical image labelled "Try Demo". If this button appears, you should be in good shape- if not, your browser isn't going to work with this client.

Clicking the "Try Demo" button will launch the first window of the multi-window remote Interspace prototype client. First time users are advised to take a quick tour illustrating the use of the client.
